OK no post in the last week as I've been stewing over if to post on this topic, finally deciding too.
I'm not talking about the dreaded Rivet Counter, I can actually understand where they are coming from (maybe not agree, but yes understand). What I'm talking about is an ever growing group of haters and elitists, that if you don't build a particular way, or if you do or don't use particular products then then you're scum. Many of these people are also seem to be hating (and in some cases persecuting) on certain brands as well. What has this got to do with me? Personally nothing, a slight bonus I guess from my Asperger's I guess is being a little emotionally removed and usually being able to stay objective. Non personally? I have seen many people and personally know at least one who has been subjected to full on personal abuse by these type of people just because they happened to hold a different point of view.
When I first started getting back into modelling about 10 years ago I saw nothing but support and comradery in online communities, occasionally good natured stirring but it was obvious and well meant. While much of what I've seen is either on Facebook and carrying over some of these peoples personal websites/blogs I have seen it crop up from time to on various forums (where its thankfully usually quashed quite quickly by moderators).
I hope we as a community can overcome this growing negativity, I acknowledge that some people look at what we do as art and as such people can and should be entitled to their opinions on how THEY go about pursuing their joy of the hobby (or career) but to abuse people just because they painted said kit in a different way or used a product they don't like is not OK. Buy all means discuss, banter and debate until the cows come but if you feel the need to abuse someone over the right way to put some plastic together well maybe its time to re-evaluate.
