Dragon B-52H Stratofortress (#2002)
Dragon's B-52H in 1/200 is an old kit. I purchased it from a local toy store who were selling off old warehouse stock. How old? I purchased kit in 2010, the kit decals were dated 1988 and behaved as such.
The B-52 is a BIG plane. With a wingspan of 56m even the 1/200 scale model comes in with a nearly 30cm wingspan.
As mentioned earlier Dragon's B-52 is one of their earlier kits (easily the earliest I've built of theirs). This shows. The pilots are plastic blobs and fit is poor. I had a display stand spare that I decided to use so as try and convey how big the B-52 looks in flight. This was a bad choice as it turns out as the undercarriage doors did not fit in a closed position. The doors were to thick and needed thinning and some were just bad shape and didn't fit needing filler. The engine nacelles were also of very poor fit needing 3 applications of putty to get a decent fit.
I built this kit as part of FineScale Modeler forums 2010 "Weekend Madness Group Build". As such I was pressed for time I elected to use a possibly fictitious (for the squadron and aircraft markings at least) aircraft colour of overall Dark Ghost Grey. I say possibly fictitious as some of the squadrons aircraft may of migrated to overall gunship grey before they transitioned to the B-1B. There are also a few other small issues as I had to replace some of the kit decals with some from my spares which are not quite accurate.
An error with the kit is they provide marking schemes of 1981 to use with the AGM-28 Hound missiles that are also part of the kit but these missiles where phased out in the late 1970's.
Due to the filling needed and fine parts I'd suggest at least intermediate skill.
